Is your home compliant with Amanda’s Law?
|
Amanda’s Law, a New York State
law effective February 22, 2010,
is a law named for 16 year old Amanda Hansen of West Seneca New York ,
who died on January 17, 2009 , due to a carbon monoxide leak from a
defective boiler while she was sleeping at a friend’s house.
Amanda’s law requires carbon monoxide detectors
to be installed in nearly every house and apartment in New York State
. The law requires that homes built before 2008 must have at least one
functioning carbon monoxide detector on the lowest story that contains
a sleeping area. The only dwellings that are exempt are those without
gas sources that do not have an attached garage.
